Splog Privacy Policy
Effective 28 September 2026
Splog is a voice logging app. You talk about your day, and Splog uses what you say to build a log of the things you chose to track.
This policy explains what Splog does with what you say. The short version: your log stays on your phone. When you make a recording, that recording leaves your device temporarily to be turned into text and read for the items you track. That part is worth reading.
What Splog handles
- Audio you record in the app
- The text transcript of that audio
- The items you choose to track
- Entries, dates, notes and other records Splog creates from what you said
Depending on what you track and what you say, this may include personal or sensitive information. Splog does not choose what you track or what you say.
What stays on your device
Your Splog log — items, entries, notes, transcripts and session history — is stored on your device. There is no Splog account, no sign-in, and no cloud copy of your log. Splog cannot read your log.
Transcription and processing
Splog cannot turn speech into text on its own, and cannot work out which of your tracked items you mentioned. It uses OpenAI for both:
- Your audio recording is sent to be transcribed into text.
- The resulting transcript, together with your list of tracked items, is sent so that Splog can identify what you mentioned.
Splog does not attach your name, email address, account identity or device identifier to these requests, because Splog does not collect them. However, anything you say in a recording may appear in the audio or transcript that is sent.
OpenAI's handling of data sent through its API is governed by OpenAI's own policies, which you can read at openai.com/policies.
How those requests reach OpenAI
So that Splog's service credentials are never stored inside the app, these requests are routed through a small relay service operated by Splog on Cloudflare's infrastructure.
That relay does not read, copy or store the contents of your requests. Your audio and your transcript pass straight through it to OpenAI, and the response passes straight back. Nothing about their contents is written down or kept.
The relay keeps one thing: a count of how many requests have come from a given IP address on a given day, used solely to prevent abuse of the service. That record contains only an IP address, a date and a number — never any part of what you recorded or said. It expires automatically after roughly a day.
The relay runs on Cloudflare's network, and Cloudflare — like any hosting or network provider — performs its own operational logging of traffic passing through its infrastructure. That is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy, not by Splog.
Once transcription succeeds, Splog deletes the audio recording from your device. The transcript remains on your device as part of that session's record.
If transcription fails, for example because you have no connection, Splog keeps the recording on your device so you don't have to record it again. It appears in History as "Audio only," and Splog retries it automatically when you next open the app with a connection. You can also retry or delete it yourself at any time. The recording is deleted once it has been transcribed, or when you delete it.
What Splog does not do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers
- No analytics, usage tracking or behavioural tracking
- No selling or sharing of your information
- No third-party network services beyond those described above
If this changes, the policy will be updated before the change ships.
Backups
Because Splog's data is stored on your device, it may be included in your device's own backup depending on your settings — for example an iCloud backup. Those backups are managed by Apple under Apple's terms. Splog has no access to them.
Your choices and deleting your information
- Individual entries, items, sessions and "Splogged for Later" items can be deleted inside the app.
- All sessions can be deleted at once from Settings. Deleting a session removes its transcript, but the logged entries it produced and any "Splogged for Later" items are kept until you delete them separately.
- You can withdraw microphone access at any time in iOS Settings. Splog cannot make new recordings while it is disabled.
- Deleting Splog removes its stored data from your device. Copies inside device backups remain subject to your backup provider's practices.
There is no Splog account to close and no remote copy of your log to delete, because neither exists.
